About

WE MADE A ROOM
FOR SLOWING DOWN.

The Slow Room is a screen-free social event in Sale, Manchester.

The origin

PRESENT, BUT
NOT QUITE THERE.

As a family, everything we manage runs through our phones — appointments, shopping, school, work, social plans, the news. It's relentless. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, we noticed we were spending time together but not really being together. Everyone present, no one quite there.

We started putting phones in a drawer when we sat down as a family. The difference was immediate. Conversations went somewhere. Time felt slower. We felt less frazzled and, strangely, more connected.

We wanted to bottle that feeling and bring it somewhere bigger. The Slow Room is what happened next.

An evening in three parts

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS.

When you arrive

Your phone goes into a secure locked box. You keep the key. We hand you a programme. The music is already playing.

The evening

Live classical music plays softly. There are books, board games, journalling prompts and craft materials — bring your own project or choose something on the way in. You set the pace.

When you leave

Two hours later, or three. No one's rushing you out.

A real partnership

GOOD FOR YOUR MIND.
LITERALLY.

The Slow Room partners with Manchester Mind — because we genuinely believe that time away from screens, spent in real company, is one of the most effective things you can do for your mental wellbeing. A portion of every ticket goes directly to their work.

The people behind it

A SMALL THING,
MADE WITH CARE.

The Slow Room was built by a family in Sale who got tired of being in the same room as each other but miles apart.
